What to expect during your appointment

  • Driver Fitting

Confidence in your driver when standing on any tee is paramount to your results. Knowing that your driver optimises distance and minimises dispersion allows you to attack any hole with assurance.

Rhys assesses head model, loft, shape, head size, weight positioning, shaft sleeve setting, shaft model, weight, torque, flex, length and of course grip in order to optimise aesthetic appeal, club speed, ball speed, feel, resonance, launch, spin, apex, carry, roll, total consistency, accuracy and distance.

No stone is left unturned in his search for the best possible start to your round.

  • Utility Fitting

This  category includes fairway woods, hybrids and driving or utility Irons.

Depending on your style, technique, ability and goals Rhys evaluates all the options to find out what works best to fill that crucial distance gap and shot versatility between your longest iron and the driver. You may be surprised what you end up with – the options are vast!

Rhys assesses model, lofts, shape, head size, weight positioning, shaft settings, shaft models, weight, torque, flex, length and of course grip in order to optimise aesthetic appeal, club speed, ball speed, feel, resonance, launch, spin, apex, carry, roll, total consistency, accuracy and distance.

  • Iron Fitting

Your iron set could have as many as 9 irons or as few as 4 irons. It all depends on how and where you play and where you are headed in terms of expected progress.

For example, you may require 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, PW and GW in your main iron set (9 irons) or at the other end of the spectrum you may require a smaller 7,8,9 and PW configuration (4 irons).

Typically, irons hit it lower than the equivalent clubs in the ‘Utility’ category and its only through detailed testing and adjustment that Rhys will be able to determine the optimum set and specification for you.

Much like the other categories, Rhys assesses model, loft, shape, top line, sole width, camber, radius, bounce, head size, weight positioning, shaft setting, shaft model, weight, torque, flex, length and grip in order to optimise aesthetic appeal, club speed, ball speed, feel, resonance, launch, spin, apex, workability carry, roll, total consistency, accuracy and distance.

  • Specialty Wedge Fitting

Speciality wedges are individual, specialised wedges that do not come with a set of irons. They are identified by their loft rather than their purpose, with lofts typically ranging from 46° to 60°.

With 60% to 70% of all shots being played from 110 yards or closer, it easy to appreciate why wedges (and putters) are regarded as 'scoring clubs'. From this distance, getting the ball up and down from a variety of different lies is the main objective.

For this reason, specialty wedges have a compact teardrop shape to help reduce turf drag in longer grass and offer other design features that enhance shot versatility, trajectory control, and spin (distance control).

There are several subtle design features in a wedge that need to be considered including bounce angle, sole camber, sole width, sole grind, cosmetic finish, groove configuration, and of course loft.

Rhys assesses all these features as well as lengths, shafts and grips plus the type of course you generally play to ensure that all additions complement your irons and performance needs.

Recap

1 - PRE-APPOINTMENT

Feedback

We gather information about you, your game, your current scoring ability, the type of course you play and your goals. This step allows us to prepare for your visit so we are ready to maximise your results and time with us. To help us do this, we use a third-party performance development website for golfers called my-pro. You may learn more about my-pro here

2 - APPOINTMENT

The Fitting

The appointment itself involves Rhys recording physical measurements, followed by player/game assessment and discussion. He will then analyse your existing clubs before moving into extensive club testing and ball analysis. During this time you will be required to hit shots whilst Rhys methodically dials in the perfect club components to elevate your game.

3 - POST APPOINTMENT

Results

Eclipse Golf will confirm all recommended club specifications within 48 hours, along with the results of your assessment. You may then confirm if you would like to proceed with club orders. All ordered clubs are put through a full spec check by Eclipse Golf upon receipt, and adjusted if required to ensure you are given exactly what Rhys has recommended. All recommended clubs and supporting analysis results are posted to your my-pro profile.

4 - THE TEST RUN

Club Check

This optional session when you collect your clubs, puts you and your new clubs through their paces. It allows Rhys to check that every detail is perfect and that your clubs feel great in your hands. If appropriate, Rhys will record your carry and total distances so that you may hit the course with full confidence.

5 - FOLLOW UP

More Feedback

We are not finished until we know you are 100% satisfied with your new clubs out on the course - where it matters most! Eclipse Golf will contact you two weeks after your appointment to see how you are getting on. Knowing that you happy and making noticeable improvement on the course is our objective.

There are several reasons for wanting, or needing to buy new clubs:

  • You may need new clubs because your swing has improved and your current equipment is unsuitable.
  • You want to upgrade your current, older clubs to benefit from the latest club technology.
  • You may need to add a new club to fill a distance gap in your bag.
  • You feel that your current clubs are negatively influencing your swing.

Regardless of the reason, it is important to appreciate that club fitting is now the primary way to purchase new golf clubs, no matter what standard of golf you play.
